Your body is trying to tell you something

You wake up and your back already hurts.

You're tired before you even get out of bed. The kind of tired that coffee doesn't touch.

Your shoulders are tight. Your jaw is clenched. Your stomach is in knots.

You ignore it. You push through. You tell yourself it's just part of the job.

But your body is trying to tell you something. And it's been trying for a while.

The signals you've learned to ignore

The headache that shows up every afternoon.

The insomnia that keeps you staring at the ceiling at 2am, running through tomorrow's list.

The anxiety that hums in your chest before you even know what you're anxious about.

The back pain you've had so long you forgot what it felt like to not have it.

The fatigue that rest doesn't fix.

The illness that keeps coming back because your immune system is running on fumes.

You've normalized all of it. It's just how you feel now. It's just what farming does to a body.

But what if it's not normal? What if it's a message?

Your body keeps the score

Your body doesn't lie.

When you're carrying too much, it tells you. When you're ignoring your limits, it tells you. When you've been running on empty for too long, it tells you.

It starts with whispers. The tight shoulders. The restless sleep. The low-grade exhaustion.

When you ignore the whispers, it gets louder. The migraines. The digestive issues. The injuries that won't heal.

And if you keep ignoring it, it eventually screams. The breakdown. The diagnosis. The moment your body forces you to stop because you wouldn't stop yourself.

Your body has been talking to you. The question is whether you've been listening.

What you've been telling yourself

"I don't have time to deal with this."

"It's not that bad."

"I'll go to the doctor when things slow down."

"Other farmers work through worse."

"I can't afford to rest."

You've been telling yourself that your body can wait. That the farm comes first. That you'll take care of yourself later.

But later never comes. And your body is getting tired of waiting.

The appointments you keep putting off

When's the last time you went to the doctor? Not for an emergency. Just a checkup.

When's the last time you addressed the pain instead of working around it?

When's the last time you took a sick day — just did the minimum baseline — instead of pushing through?

The appointments keep getting pushed. The symptoms keep getting ignored. The "I'll deal with it later" keeps piling up.

Meanwhile, your body keeps sending signals. And the signals keep getting louder.

This isn't just about your body

The physical symptoms are real. But they're often connected to something deeper.

The back pain might be about what you're carrying — not just the feed bags, but the weight of everything you're holding together.

The insomnia might be about the decisions you're avoiding, the conversations you're not having, the uncertainty you can't control.

The anxiety might be about the pace you're keeping — a pace that was never sustainable.

The exhaustion might be about the fact that you've been pouring out for years without pouring back in.

Your body and your mind aren't separate. When one is struggling, the other feels it.

What your body might be asking for

Rest. Real rest. Not scrolling on your phone for ten minutes. Not collapsing into bed too exhausted to sleep well. Actual, restorative rest.

Movement. Not more labor. Gentle movement that feels good. Stretching. Walking without a purpose. Something that isn't work.

Nourishment. Sitting down to eat. Drinking water. Giving your body fuel instead of running on caffeine and adrenaline.

Attention. Noticing what hurts. Asking why. Taking the symptoms seriously instead of pushing past them.

Care. The doctor's appointment. The massage. The therapy session. The thing you keep saying you don't have time for.

Your body isn't asking for much. It's asking for the bare minimum. And even that feels impossible right now.

You can't outrun this forever

You've been outrunning your body's signals for years. And it's worked — sort of. You've kept going. You've kept the farm running. You've pushed through.

But the bill is coming due.

The body that's been carrying you through endless seasons is starting to break down. Not because it's weak. Because you've asked too much of it for too long.

You can't keep withdrawing without making deposits. Eventually, the account runs dry.

What would change if you listened?

What if you treated the pain as information instead of an inconvenience?

What if you took the headache as a sign to rest instead of a problem to push through?

What if you listened to the exhaustion instead of overriding it with caffeine?

What if you made the appointment you've been putting off?

What if you stopped waiting for your body to scream before you paid attention?

You might find that the signals get quieter. That the pain eases. That the sleep improves. That you have more capacity than you thought — because you stopped depleting yourself.

Or you might find that something needs real attention. And catching it now is better than catching it later.

Either way, listening is better than ignoring.

You deserve care too

You take care of the animals. You take care of the soil. You take care of the customers and the family and the business.

You take care of everyone and everything except yourself.

But you deserve care too. Not because you've earned it. Not because you've finished everything on the list. Just because you're a human being with a body that needs tending.

You can't pour from an empty cup. And you've been running on empty for a long time.

The invitation

Your body is trying to tell you something.

Maybe it's telling you to slow down. Maybe it's telling you to get help. Maybe it's telling you that something needs to change.

I don't know what it's saying. But you do. Somewhere, underneath all the pushing through, you know.

So stop. Just for a minute.

Put your hand on your chest. Take a breath. And ask yourself: what is my body trying to tell me?

And then — the hard part — listen.

You only get one body. And this one has been carrying you through a lot.

It deserves your attention. Even when you're busy. Especially when you're busy.
