YOU’RE IN THE WEEDS
Literally! You're doing anything you can to avoid the real work. Thinning carrots and fixing fence is still important. Right?
After all, you got into agriculture because you loved working outside, not being chained to the office chair.
You're telling yourself, "If I can only figure this out..." but mulling over your problems only keeps you stuck. You're literally trapped in "paralysis through analysis".
But you can't escape these thoughts - even if listening to a podcast in the field keeps them at bay, they're always lurking in the background. Making you feel so guilty because you SHOULD have figured this out already.
What's it costing you?
The worry. The constant rumination. The stress. The second-guessing yourself. The fear of "doing it wrong". The fear of judgment. The lack of confidence.
Farming and ranching is already physically demanding work. All this stalling and procrastinating isn't accomplishing anything but exhausting you further and wasting your time.
How to break the cycle
What you need is a clear plan so you can Just. Get. Going.
Sometimes just acknowledging that you’re In The Weeds is enough to get you unstuck. When you finally have clarity about how you are standing in the way of your own progress it sparks new inspiration and ideas.
But when you're In The Weeds and so fixated on the desperate need to SOLVE the problem, it can be difficult to zoom out to actually SEE the problem.
That's where coaching can help. Unlike hashing the same problem out over and over in your head (or with your partner where emotions can flare), coaching brings in a neutral perspective and a non-judgemental space where you can see your challenges in a new light.
But we don't stop there. It's one thing to find the solution, but actually taking the steps to implement the plan is key. Coaching helps clear out the mental baggage that keeps you from getting started so you can take that first step.
Just. Get. Going.
And once you're on a roll, the support and accountability of having a coach keeps you in motion. Stop "efforting" and start making an impact.
